Janelle Hill - VP of Research, Gartner
Presenting: Business Processes: The Foundation Linking Business and IT
Janelle Hill is a vice president in Gartner Research. Her primary research area is business process management as both a management discipline and as an emerging set of technologies. Her current research agenda emphasizes distinguishing business process styles, process analytics and linking business process improvement objectives to overall corporate performance management goals and strategies. Ms. Hill also supports the application integration and Web services areas of Gartner research.
Ms. Hill has more than 20 years of IT experience and is an industry expert on software infrastructure. She has held both technical and management roles in software architecture, database development, IT operations, and product marketing and sales. Prior to rejoining Gartner in 2005 with the acquisition of META Group, Ms. Hill was a lead middleware analyst for META Group. She also participated in the integration of META Group with Gartner. Previously Ms. Hill held positions at Vitria, Gartner, MCI, IBM, Select Magazines and Standard Motor Products.
Doug Neal - Research Fellow, the Leading Edge Forum – Executive Programme

Doug Neal, based in the United States, is Research Fellow at the Leading Edge Forum – Executive Programme and is responsible for research into Innovating through Technology. His focus is on the intersection of strategy, business operations and technology. Recent projects have included Green IT – Moving Beyond the 2% Solution, Harnessing Web 2.0 – Enterprise Strategies for Living on the Web, the Consumerization of IT, Developing Employee Responsibility and Trust, The Use and Misuse of Collaborative Technologies, The Emergence of Business Process Management, and Business Process Management: Delivering on the Promise.
He co-authored the book The Networked Supply Chain: Applying Breakthrough BPM Technology to Meet Relentless Customer Demands. Doug’s point of view on consumer privacy was published in Wilson Quarterly, the journal of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.
Doug has led study tours on mobile technologies to Scandinavia, Japan, and Korea. In October 2006 Doug conducted a study tour to Silicon Valley which met with both large and emerging Web 2.0 companies. In October 2007 Doug led a study tour to identify next practices in Green IT. The tour focused on how IT can be used to Green the business, not just the data center and desktop. In October 2008 Doug will lead a tour on the Consumerization of Enterprise IT, Managing the Risks of Web 2.0.
Doug has developed state-of-the-art management and other end-user systems for clients in financial services, manufacturing, healthcare and high-technology companies. Prior to joining the Leading Edge Forum, Doug worked at two international management consulting firms and founded an organization specializing in systems for executive management.
Doug received a BA from Haverford College, conducted special studies at the Ruhr University and has an ABD from the University of Michigan.

Neil Raden is an "industry influencer" – someone who is followed by technology providers, consultants and even other analysts. His deep knowledge of the analytical aspects in information technology is the result of thirty years of intensive work. Prior to co-founding Smart (enough) Systems, he was the founder of Hired Brains, a research and advisory firm in Santa Barbara, CA, offering research and analysis services to technology providers and venture capitalists as well as providing consulting and implementation services in Business Intelligence and Analytics to many Global 2000 companies.
Mr. Raden began his career as a casualty actuary with AIG in New York before moving into software engineering, consulting and industry analysis, with experience in the application of modeling and analytics in fields as diverse as health care to nuclear waste management to cosmetics marketing and many others in between. James Taylor is a leading expert in Enterprise Decision Management. Prior to co-founding Smart (enough) Systems, Mr. Taylor was a Vice President at Fair Isaac Corporation where he developed and refined the concept of enterprise decision management or EDM. Widely credited with the invention of the term and the best known proponent of the approach, Mr Taylor helped create the emerging EDM market and is a passionate advocate of decision management. Mr. Taylor has 20 years experience in all aspects of the design, development, marketing and use of advanced technology including CASE tools, project planning and methodology tools as well as platform development in PeopleSoft’s R&D team and consulting with Ernst and Young. He has consistently worked to develop approaches, tools and platforms that others can use to build more effective information systems.
Mr. Taylor is an active consultant, speaker and author. David Frankel is Lead Standards Architect for Model-Driven Systems at SAP Labs. He has over 25 years of experience as a technical strategist, architect, and developer. He is the author of the book, "Model-Driven Architecture®: Applying MDA® to Enterprise Computing." He also is lead editor of the book "The MDA Journal." He served several terms as a member of the Architecture Board of the Object Management Group (OMG), the body that manages the MDA standards, and he has co-authored a number of industry standards. Recently he has been publishing and speaking about the role of model-driven systems and semantics in enterprise SOA and Business Process Management, and has been promoting the Business Process Expert community at www.sap.bpx.com
David Lyle - VP Product Strategy, Informatica

David Lyle is VP of Product Strategy at Informatica. During the early to mid-90's, David worked as a data warehousing consultant on numerous enterprise-scale, massively parallel warehouse projects. From this experience, he helped found and grow Influence Software from 1996 to 1999 as a pioneering company in the development of packaged Analytic Applications. After Influence was purchased by Informatica in 1999, David's ideas and leadership following his role as VP of R&D for the Informatica Applications led to the development of Informatica’s innovative cross-vendor metadata lineage capabilities and other patented technologies. In 2005, David co-authored the book “Integration Competency Center: An Implementation Methodology” with John Schmidt, describing how large companies can create and grow “centers of excellence” for integration to reduce project risk, speed development and change cycles, and cut integration costs and improve integration quality. His current areas of focus include SOA, Data Services, user experience for enterprise software, and data governance.

Dan Neason is Vice President and a founder of Modus21, LLC. Mr. Neason has led numerous Business Process Management projects and plays an instrumental role in guiding the evolution of the Modus21 methodology. Prior to Modus21, Neason held project management positions at Product Data Integration Technologies, Modulant, Inc., and Cambar Software, Inc. In those positions he lead projects ranging upward of 3-4 million dollars in size for the Department of Defense and Fortune 1000 corporations Epson America, ACCO Brands, Hagemayer, and Ingram Micro. Before Extricity, Greg was a member of the pioneering web company EIT whose alumni have spawned numerous Internet startups. Greg holds a PhD from Stanford University and has been a thought leader in the evolving role of the internet as a platform for enterprise applications.
Daniel Oneufer - Project Manager, Computer Aid

Mr. Oneufer is a Project Manager for Computer Aid Inc. He currently supports Pennsylvania counties in sharing criminal justice and public safety information using Business Process Management tools and techniques.
Mr. Oneufer has over 22 years of experience in the information technology industry. His diverse background includes system development, support, analysis, integration, and research. He has managed projects across multiple platforms ranging from legacy, to client / server, to web-based. He has spent his last eight years focusing on systems that enable the sharing and integration of criminal justice and public safety information.
Mr. Oneufer is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP); is certified in the SEARCH Justice Information Exchange Model (JIEM) tool; and is a member of the Federal InfraGard program. He also serves on a volunteer basis as a member of the Technology Committee for one of Pennsylvania's largest credit unions.

John Power is the founder and Managing Director of Risaris Limited. With over 25 years experience in the software industry, John has delivered projects in Software AG, Delta Airlines, Boston University and Morgan Stanley. John has been a driving force behind the development of the SOA gateway technology which allows organisations maximise the value of their existing IT assets and enabling integration of these assets in minutes instead of weeks or months which is the case with traditional methods. Prior to founding MuleSource, Dave Rosenberg served as Chief Information Officer for Glass Lewis & Co., a leading investment research and proxy advisory firm. Rosenberg also served as Principal Analyst for the Open Source Development Labs (OSDL), a global consortium dedicated to accelerating the adoption of Linux.
Previously, Rosenberg was Programs Director for LinuxWorld and Comdex and held technology and marketing positions at Sprint, OmniSky and NorthPoint Communications. At OmniSky his work on wireless provisioning systems was awarded a U.S. Patent. He contributes regularly to leading industry and business publications, including BusinessWeek, InfoWorld, ComputerWorld, CNET, ZDNet, Release 1.0, Slashdot and IBM DeveloperWorks. He authors the Negative Approach blog on CNet.com.

Dominic Sartorio is senior director of product management at SpikeSource, a venture-funded company specializing in the test, integration, delivery and support of open source solutions. He is also President of the Open Solutions Alliance, a non-profit consortium focusing on the interoperability and adoption of open source solutions. Dominic has a masters degree in computer science from MIT and 15 years of experience in web applications and application integration, including roles in engineering, pre-sales, alliances and product management at various companies including Oracle and BEA Systems.

Bruce Silver is an independent industry analyst focused on business process management. His company BPMessentials.com provides training on Process Modeling with BPMN, and as BPMS Watch (www.brsilver.com/wordpress) he provides a series of BPMS product evaluations published on BPMInstitute.org and a blog on trends in BPM technology.
Previously he was VP of workflow and document management research at BIS Strategic Decisions, which became Giga Information Group, now part of Forrester Research, and before that managed software development and marketing organizations. He served on the board of directors of Captiva Software, acquired in 2006 by EMC. He holds Physics degrees from Princeton and MIT, and four patents in electronic imaging.

James Urquhart is Director of Solutions Services, Alliances at Alfresco, and a widely experienced enterprise software field technologist. Over the years, he has held positions in technology consulting, software engineering, product marketing, and program management (the latter for the global developer communities of one of the world's largest developer sites). His admittedly schizophrenic background is driven by a desire to work with technologies that are disruptive, but that simplify computing overall.
James is also an avid blogger. His primary blog, recently renamed The Wisdom of Clouds, is focused on so-called cloud computing and its effect worldwide on enterprises and individuals.

Jason Woodruff - Director, Like Minded People Ltd

Jason lives in the North East of England where he is a Director of Like Minded People Ltd a consultancy working across a number of areas including finance, procurement, risk, project management and safety.
Jason's background is in risk and safety management and he has worked for a number of manufacturing and service businesses across the UK. His published research is focussed on risk management with a safety flavour.
In 2006 he received very early-stage funding for openGRC, an open source play in the evolving governance, risk and compliance domain. A lack of further funding forced Jason to suspend openGRC in late-2007. However, he is undaunted and is now going again, this time with a focussed SaaS application in the HR domain.
A passionate advocate of 'open'. He launched open-source-network in early-2007 and has been active in getting open source on the agenda of the North of England's three Regional Development Agencies. He also helped found and sponsored the Newcastle Ruby User Group and remains an active member.
Currently he is trying to gain momentum for a GoOpen conference in Northern England, with special reference to enterprise application architecture, and is seeking keynote and user involvement.
Academically Jason has a PhD in marine physics from the University of Hull and is a distinction graduate in entrepreneurship from Durham University Business School.

In his first days at Intalio Arnaud managed the first BPM implementations based on the Intalio offering both in Europe and in the US. He also participated to the EMEA sales campaign that leads him to build a strong network of Intalio partners.
Arnaud holds a Master of Science in Mathematics and Computer Science from the ENSEEIHT, a renowned French top Engineering school located in Toulouse.

As Director of Product Development, Alex Boisvert leads the world-class engineering team at Intalio in developing the leading open-source Business Process Management System (BPMS). Alex has a rich professional experience working in the Telecom, IT and software industries. He has delivered products ranging from communication switches (Nortel, Mitel and Memotec), object-oriented multimedia databases (Sobrio) to enterprise and online transaction processing software (Informex). Alex is an avid user and contributor to open-source projects. He is the author of the open-source JDBM persistence engine and a regular committer to the Apache Ode, Apache ServiceMix, Apache Buildr and the Lift web-framework projects.
Alex holds a M.Sc. in Computer Engineering from the University of Sherbrooke (Canada) and a MBA from Golden Gate University (San Francisco, California).
Ihab El Alami - Process Expert, Intalio

Ihab joined Intalio a year ago, and has had a foot in Development, Support, and D3 Management. He is now a process expert leading several projects, especially around Workflow.
Before joining Intalio, Ihab worked in the LORIA research center in France, as a member of the Anti-virus Security team. He has also worked on Robotics, Web development and Algorithms.
Ihab holds an MSEE degree from the French engineering school ENSMN.
Shao Fang - VP of D3, Intalio

Shao is VP of Demand Driven Development (D3) at Intalio, responsible for Intalio's "community product management" process and D3 deliverables.
Shao has 13 years of experience in software development and management, concentrating in the areas of open source, business process management systems, composite applications, and workflow.
Prior to joining Intalio, Shao was Director and Open Source Practice Head at Inventec Corporation where he jump-started Inventec's open source-based IT services business in Greater China. Before Inventec Shao was a founding team member and Director of Engineering at SpikeSource where he managed the development of open source stacks and productization framework. Prior to SpikeSource Shao was Engineering Director at SeeBeyond (now part of Sun Microsystems), guiding the effort to re-implement SeeBeyond's BPM product from scratch to be based on the emerging BPEL and BPMN standards. Before SeeBeyond, Shao was Senior Engineering Manager at Asera, a pioneer in the composite application framework space. Shao worked on rule-based personalization, portal, and data access frameworks there. Prior to Asera Shao was a technical lead at SAP Labs, developing mySAP.com Marketplace and integrating SAPoffice and SAP Workflow with Microsoft Exchange.
Shao received a BS degree in Engineering and Applied Science from California Institute of Technology and MS and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. His research area was randomized learning algorithms for neural networks.

Rick has been working with Business Process Management (BPM) and Service‐Oriented Architecture (SOA) concepts since 2001, which was before these concepts were accepted as a formal mainstream practice. He worked for several BPM vendors, and In January 2007, he joined Intalio as a process expert, which is a hybrid role of both business analyst and IT architect. Rick’s previous consulting experience has helped formalize the Intalio customer enablement services into a repeatable formula for success in BPM projects. He has been involved in over two dozen BPM customer engagements, and this experience is transformed into a structured training approach for Intalio customers, from basic concepts all the way to a production ready BPM system.
Jacques-Alexandre Gerber - VP of Business Development, Intalio

Currently the VP of Business Development for Intalio, Jacques-Alexandre Gerber has spent the last 8 years getting his hands into almost every aspect of Business Process Management. Beyond his experience as an industry expert watching and shaping the trends of BPM through his work as VP of Business Development he has gone deep into the code and led engineering teams to develop workflow products for Intalio.
As a Client Services Manager he built programs for training, support, pre-sales and consulting services. As OEM Director he managed all of Intalio's big accounts and projects including TeliaSonera, GD, BAE Systems, and a major OEM agreement with Informatica. Jacques was also instrumental in restarting the company, bringing Intalio from a closed proprietary source company to open source software taking ownership of creating and implementing a repeatable and scalable sales model which led to profitability within 2 years.
Before coming to Intalio, Jacques served as the Linguistic Attache to the French Cultural Center in Cairo where he developed and led education programs for Egyptian students learning French.
Jason Howlett - Process Expert, Intalio

Jason's role as a Process Analyst involves a mix of Business Analyst, IT Architect and Sales responsibilities. His time is spent training customers in BPM and Intalio|BPMS; consulting customers to enable them to design and start their BPM projects in the best way possible; help drive product improvements and build and manage customer relationships.
Before coming to Intalio, Jason worked as an Enterprise Architect Analyst for a large Multinational IT Consulting company.

Hugues Malphettes leads the developement of Intalio|Designer.
He joined Intalio in 2002: he developped an Ajax framework to build Rich Internet Applications.
Hugues then developed the data mapper. In 2006, he took ownership of the rest of Designer for its rewrite with Eclipse. Hugues is a an eclipse committer for the BPMN modeler and a reviewer for the BPMN-2.0 specification.
Hugues holds a Master of Science in Mathematics and Computer Science from the Ecole Centrale Lyon, a top engineering school in France.
Nicolas Modrzyk - Project Manager, Intalio

Nicolas Modrzyk has been living in Japan for 3 years, and joined Intalio last August after a very convincing talk in Tokyo by Ismael and Jacques on BPMS.
Nicolas is now in charge of the workflow project, whose goal is to implement the BPEL4People specifications, basically everything related to Human Interaction.
Recently, he has led the integration of Liferay, Alfresco and Intalio|Workflow together with some Single Sign On sauce.
Nicolas has been involved with many Open Source software development for the last 5 years, including Content Management, database clustering, ETL, workflow engines, and application servers.
Nicolas holds a Master in Computer Science/Network from the French school ESIAL, and another in Web Security from Dublin City University.
Pierre Pavageau - Process Expert, Intalio

Pierre is currently a junior process expert. He learned the basics of the Intalio suite on his own before joining Intalio in March 2008, and is graduating form the Ecole des Mines de Nancy in September (Masters degree equivalent).
Pierre worked for Capgemini as software engineer in 2007, working on CRM software, and has a 2 and a half years experience in Java programming and several other technologies. He has worked on several projects, including image recognition software and research on computer viruses, and was one of the top ranked students of his class
Matthieu Riou - Lead Developer, Intalio|Server

Matthieu is a software architect working on the Intalio|BPP server. He is an expert in open source software development and is both a member and vice president for the Apache Software Foundation. In the past, Matthieu held various engineering positions in the banking and software publishing industries.
Oleg Zenzin - Project Manager, Intalio

Oleg is currenlty working on Demand Driven Development (D3) project to integrate Business Rule Engine services within Intalio|BPM System. Graduated from Moscow Engineering Physics Insitute (State University) with Diploma with Honors he has 8+ years in J2EE. With the very first project for major commercial bank in Ukraine and Ukrainian National Bank Oleg become interested in different workflow aspects. The highly integrated banking system was driven by proprietary workflow engine based upon Petri net math. A couple years and two subsystems later Oleg moved to Saint-Petersburg, Russia where he had vast experience in different spheres of J2EE, starting from web content management systems, through European Space Agency sponsored research project on network of agent/supervisor web-services, to real-time trading stocks application. 2005 back in Ukraine Oleg finally met with Intalio: BPEL4People introduction both in design and run-time implementation was done by team under his technical lead. After one year intermission Oleg re-joined Intalio in US in April 2008.
